Agde - this is one of the oldest towns in France.  The Phocaenans and later the Romans laid out a well-sheltered harbour here in the shadow of the Mont St Loup volcano but it was pushed further inland by the alluvium deposits of the Rhone and later was superseded by the port of Sete.  Visit its St Stephen's cathedral, built from the black basalt rocks of Mont St Loup, and stroll around the ancient streets.  When you are hungry check out the restaurants on the banks of the Herault river and eat some of the best and freshest seafood around.

Pezenas - considered by some as the "Versailles of the Languedoc", Pezenas has a discreet beauty, you need to open some of the doors of its old mansions to see the princely luxury they contain.  Enjoy a stroll through the town with the help of its tourist office who will suggest the best route for you to take.

Sete - like all the children of Sete, singer and songwriter Georges Brassens spent most of his childhood there swimming in the Mediterranean.  Sete was originally an islandculminating in Mont St Clair, 2 spits of sand connecting it to the mainland.  The creation of the Orsetti basin in 1950 and the seaport in the late 60s turned Sete into one of the largest harbours in France.  In August the basin is the setting for the waterborne jousts between 2 traditionally opposing districts of the town.  For the best views, drive of walk along the coast road or "corniche", then descend into the town for lunch ordinner - Sete is a working port, you can be sure to eat the freshest seafood here!
